My 12th consecutive swim for Hospicare - with a twist!
I am participating in Women Swimmin' for the twelfth consecutive year. This year, I'm doing the "Women Swimmin' Laps" version, because I will be out of town on the day of the swim. I'll be in Paris, France participating in the 12th Gay Games, where I will compete in the 2.5km (1.5 mile) open water event. I'm committing to swimming the full distance of Women Swimmin' (1.2 miles) at least twice a week between now and August 11, once in the pool and once in one of the Finger Lakes. Last year, I set myself the goal of swimming across all the Finger Lakes as well as the "fingernails" - Waneta, Lamoka and Cayuta. So far, I've crossed Cayuga, Seneca, Waneta and Lamoka, and look forward to several other lake crossing swims this year. As I swim across lakes, I remember all who have crossed over from life to death - my late spouse Laurie Conrad, my sister Elsabe van Aswegen, my nephew Niel Geldenhuys, my mother, Mary Geldenhuys, who died last August, and countless others. Please join me in supporting Hospicare. Their services make it possible for patients to peacefully transition, without pain, and in the presence of the people closest to them. When you support Women Swimmin', you help ensure that everyone who is in need of hospice care, palliative care or bereavement services will receive them, regardless of ability to pay. Thank you for your support and encouragement.
