1,600 Strokes for Hospice
Nothing makes me feel more alive than swimming! The calm, steady strength of each stroke is a joy. I enthusiastically swim in all bodies of water, whether they are as a cold as a glacial lake in the Andes, as silky warm as the Caribbean, or as chlorinated as the pool. It’s a stroke of luck for me that our Hospicare raises funds by sending swimmers across the lake.
Hospice provides us with calm, steady strength as we experience end of life. They were there for us during our final days with our daughter Marika, and with my mother Harriet. As an organization, they have changed the way our society thinks about and experiences end of life. Our local Hospice is outstanding, and depends on this fundraiser to provide services to all, regardless of ability to pay.
On August 12, I will join my Damselfish team members and 300 other women to swim 1.2 miles across cool, green Cayuga Lake. David will be a kayaker, paddling alongside, cheering us on. It is my hope that you will join us, too, by contributing to this good cause. Donations and encouragement are both much appreciated. I’ll be swimming for Marika and Mom, and feeling grateful for your friendship with each stroke- all 1,600 of them!
