Swimming Again for Hospicare.Now 75
It's 2019 and I am 75, still participating in Women Swimmin' to raise money for Hospicare & Palliative Care Services. The funds I raise will provide medical expertise and emotional, spiritual and practical support to patients and their families.Your donation to Women Swimmin' will help make this important end-of-life care available to anyone in Tompkins or Cortland counties who needs it--regardless of their ability to pay.
For me this is a profund personal committment that began when the agency cared for my mother in 1997. Her death was peaceful and pain free because of the excellent medical care she received at home. Our family profitted from all the supports and services that were part of the end-of-life package. I became a Hospicare loyalist and it has changed my life in many ways -- most notaby the wonderful community of staff and volunteers.
Now, I try to swim every year-- hopefully until I am 80. I love the event and the woman who swim with me and the boats that are our guide dogs. I love the camaraderie, the music and the bagel at the end. Lake swimming is my thing, I started at 3 or 4 in the Adirondacks and now my favorite place is Cayuga's cool water.
